AVT Simulation Supports Central Florida Navy League in Annual Lone Sailor Run

ORLANDO, FL- April 7, 2014

Over the weekend, AVT Simulation participated in the Central Florida Navy League’s (CFNL) Annual Lone Sailor Wounded Warrior 5K & 10K Run. The annual event, which attracted over 1,000 community members this year, took place at the Blue Jacket Park in Lake Baldwin. Following the run, participants gathered together for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Lone Sailor Memorial. Proceeds raised from registrations, as well as sponsorships, benefited the Wounded Warrior Project and the Lone Sailor Memorial of Central Florida. CFNL is dedicated to the support of the Central Florida Sea Services – past, present, and future. In addition, the organization strives to promote awareness of the military’s sacrifice for our nation; advocate greater participation in supporting our troops and veterans and by doing so strengthen the nation’s commitment towards our military services.

“Orlando has an amazing military history that is often missed because we have transitioned away from being a base town,” explains Sean Osmond, Event Team Captain of AVT Simulation. “Baldwin Park was a major hub in the shaping of the future of the US Armed Services for more than a half century as it serviced as an Army Air Corps facility through World War 2 and then as one of three boot camp facilities turning out hundreds of thousands of Sailors. This, along with the other high tech schools located at the base, is one of the major contributors that helped to lead to Orlando and Central Florida to being the simulation powerhouse it is today. Since the base was fully decommissioned and demolished in 1999, you would be hard pressed to find any indication of the amazing past that took place in the heart of our town. This run is one way our community is helping to address that and honor our place in US Naval history.”
