Lead Software Engineer (SR10002)

Description:
- Software Engineer Lead will perform tasks requiring knowledge of software processes and procedures required to design, develop, test, and document software for simulation applications, specifically the DVTE Combined Arms Network (CAN) Software and DVTE Infantry Tool Kit (ITK) applications. This role requires the ability to analyze and evaluate customer requirements and lead the design and development efforts. This position provides leadership and coordination of the teams (to include subcontract management) and individuals in the design, development, implementation, and testing of software applications. Candidate should have technical capabilities in all aspects of computer software and systems and detailed knowledge of software techniques and software configuration management systems used in the simulation industry. This position requires professional technical systems and project completion skills to lead, manage, design, engineer, develop, and implement software systems to meet the customer requirements. The position reports to a senior manager.
Responsibilities:
- Provide directions, guidance and resources to other software engineers, team members, and subcontractors.
- Independently manage and complete assignments within established time frames and cost objectives.
- Provide feedback to managers and engineers on development issues as well as technical and team skills.
- Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of software development to the completion of assignments.
- Develops and executes technical project plans.
- Understands and adheres to cost targets established during the program design phase.
- Provides documentation of work and results.
- Review projects against goals and provides status reports to management.
- Coordinates engineering staff in development, integration & test of simulation software and systems.
- Leads and manages software development teams.
- Coordinates work with a number of organizations engaged in supporting the project.
- Degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
- Implementation and application of sound configuration management processes per company processes and procedures.
- Ensures software standards are met and may provide consultation on projects.
- Able to travel to customer locations to support contractual commitments including source data collection, design reviews, deliveries, integration, installations, and testing.
- Assists with the review and evaluation of personnel performance.
- Reviews and analyzes system specifications related to software development.
- Design, modify, develop, and implement software applications.
- Research, evaluation, development and application of new process and methods into products.
- Design software test criteria and verify functionality and performance.
- Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and verification of software.
- Lead analysis, design, integration and testing efforts.
- Analyzes existing systems and subsystems for reusability benefits and needed changes.
- Participate in presentations of technical findings, design, and development.
- Participate in presentations such as conferences, VTCs, and meetings, including presenting briefing to high ranking visitors and staff.
- Develops requirement, design, and operation and maintenance documentation.
- Lead software proposal development efforts.
- Manage a group of software engineers to include delegation of tasks on development efforts.
- Maintain and enforce the use of the TRAC issue tracking system for software development.
Requirements:
- Required minimum of 10 years C, C++ software development experience related to Modeling and Simulation
- At least 2 years as a Software Lead position requiring the management of other software engineers
- Familiarity/experience with the following: OpenFlight, SEDRIS, OneSAF, TerraPage, Microsoft Visual Studio C++ , OpenSceneGraph (OSG), DIS, SVN, TRAC, OpenGL, Linux, VBS2, JSAF
- Candidate must have a strong background in Modeling and Simulation software development
- Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
Education:
- BS in computer science or computer engineering minimum. MS in computer science or computer engineering preferred.
Desirable Experience:
- Familiarity with 3D graphics run-times and APIs, Close Combat Tactical Trainer (CCTT)
- Game software development experience
- DVTE program software development experience to include the components of the CAN and ITK
- JSAF software experience
- Delta 3D experience
- C4I systems Experience
- VBS2 development experience
